I know, if you’re anything like me, you’ll think the idea of having an enjoyable, scenic tour of that area is verging on the impossible. With its endless flat black fields, countless water-filled dykes and fen tigers waiting to catch the unwary, and road surfaces that are worse than those of Outer Mongolia. Add to that we’re talking Cambridgeshire here, with its proliferation of plastic ‘sleeping policemen’ and 20mph speed limits – but hear me out!
Having found three brilliant places for a Start, Halt and Finish, all we had to do was construct a route to join them up using as many flowing (and smooth !) B roads as possible - always avoiding large towns with their traffic calming and 20mph limits, busy A roads and those Fen roads with vicious exhaust-removing undulations. It took more than one attempt, but we have done it ! The route has been driven several times, at least once in a standard 2002 Mazda MX5 - and at NO TIME did the underside come in contact with the tarmac. There is a short section of about a mile with an uneven surface - but we are all adept these days at looking for potholes – and the Road Book will give plenty of warning of that unrestored section - if it has not been attended to before next May. For this Essex-born boy (matured in Suffolk !) it has been a revelation to discover the historic places and people that you will see and learn about by entering our 2027 Tour.
The Event Regulations and Entry Forms will be available soon on the Entries page. The start, lunch and final destination details can be found on the Route page.
